India - Maharashtra

The land of Warriors is the other name of Maharashtra. Located in the northern center of peninsular India, this beautiful state is surrounded by the Arabian sea in the west, Gujarat and Maharashtra on the north, Maharashtra in the east and Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh on the south. Historically this state was controlled by the Mughal rulers but in the middle of the 17th century, few bunch of people known as Marathas gained complete control over it. From then started the golden era in the history of Maharashtra as they gave new look and shape to this state and also stole the limelight from the great Mughals. The most surprising feature is that they were on the verge of capturing Delhi too. And it was Shivaji who was the first great ruler of Marathas and it was he who paved the way for future Maratha influence on India.

Coming back from the flashback, current Maharashtra has many things to showcase. And Mumbai is one of them. Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra, which derives its name from the Goddess Mumba Devi. Mumbai or popularly known as Bombay is the most lively, vibrant and energetic city boasting a lifestyle which is unmatched. Historically Mumbai was a cluster of seven islands called Heptanasia by Plotemy in AD 150. The main attractions in Mumbai are Gateway of India and temple of Mumba Devi. After experiencing the pulsating Mumbai nightlife, the next station is Pune. Pune or in Mumbaiya language Poona is located amidst the Sahyadri hills near the west coast of India.

The main highlight of this fascinating city is that it has a healthy climate all year around. And moreover this city was one of the pivotal bases of the 17th century great Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji. Apart from that Pune is also one of the leading metros in India, with the Film and Television Institute of India and National Defense Academy based here. That's why none of the Indian travel company or agent and even portal can afford to neglect it. They tend to make special arrangements for those paying visit to this beautiful yet historical city.

After getting a visual treat, be prepared for more of that as the next halt is at Aurangabad. This city was founded by the Prime Minister of Murtaza Nizam Shah II in 1610 AD. But when in 1626 his son Fateh Khan succeeded the throne, he renamed the city as Fatehpur. But in few years that is 1653 Aurangzeb became the Viceroy of the Deccan and again renamed it as Aurangabad. This city has some of the spectacular rock cut caves and cave paintings exist at two nearby places, Ajanta and Ellora. Thus, what are you waiting for if you want to see some of the exquisite paintings and modern art just visit this city.
